Great Day in the Bay

On Wednesday night, my friends from into SJ from Boston to visit me for my birthday. I was so exhausted waiting up for them since their flight got delayed. Once I saw them walk out I got out of my car and ran to them and started crying. I know I’m such a softie lol. I was so happy and relieved to see my friends. After I picked them up we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for some drinks since the options to grab a drink on a Wednesday night were kinda limited. Of course we’d have a few shots and drinks, but it was nice hanging out like that even for a little bit before we got some rest. I felt like my old self again and I was just really happy.

We headed to SF on Thursday afternoon and made it in time for brunch at Mama’s on Washington Square. Parking was kind of a pain but luckily it didn’t take too long and waiting in line to get seated wasn’t too bad either. I heard that there’s usually a crazy line. It was a cute and cozy place. The food there was good, but I’ve had better brunch lol. I’d give it 3 out of 5 stars. I got my usual smoked salmon eggs benedict, but they call it the Norwegian here. The Bloody Mary was alright. It had soju in it instead of vodka. Once again, I’ve had better brunch elsewhere haha.

After brunch we headed straight to the Golden Gate Bridge. This was my second time here and I was at more of the touristy side where they had a cafe and a souvenir shop. The last time I went I drove over the bridge and was in a parking lot. I preferred the side I was at this time. Got much better views and we got to walk a little bit over the bridge. I was scared shitless to walk over it because I’m really scared of heights. Got some great shots of the bridge. It was awesome that it wasn’t foggy like last time. We lingered around and took lots of photos.

Afterwards we headed to the Japanese Tea Garden. Luckily we made it in time because they were about to close in 15 minutes. Even better that I found parking on the street. I really loved this place! I definitely wanna come back here again and just chill with a book or something. It was really small but it’s was very relaxing. Maybe one day when I become a baller, I’ll build a garden like this in my back yard haha. It was a really cute place and we got to chill for a bit and enjoy some tea.

Our next destination was the California Academy of Sciences. I always heard great things about Thursday nights here because of their “NightLife” they have here weekly. We browsed at the map of what to check out, instead we just walked around and got to see a lot. It was pretty cool. I think we might’ve missed seeing a couple of things but that’s okay. It was still a good time.

The final destination was to get dinner at The View. It was located on the top floor of the Marriott Hotel. Pretty much suppose to be a great view of SF. I have to say Boston’s Top of the Hub and the Signature Lounge in Chicago had better views of the city. At least there was glass windows all around so you can see better. Nonetheless the seat we got, we were able to see the Golden Gate Bridge so that was cool. The food was actually pretty good. Got myself the braised short ribs and the drinks there were good too. I guess I can’t complain too much about the place haha. After we finished our dinner and as I was staring out the window, I noticed the waitress’ reflection. I saw her holding a dessert platter with a candle lol. I was thinking I hope that’s not for me and possibly for the table next to us. Nope! Haha. My friends were so sweet and arranged for this. I started crying because I was so surprised and overwhelmed by their kindness. I rarely ever get surprises especially like that so it was extremely sweet and thoughtful of them. The dessert sucked here but hey it was the thought that counts lol. My friends picked up what to get on the dessert platter. The only one I liked was the espresso creme brûlée. Creme brûlée is one of my favorite desserts and I’m glad they remembered since I don’t have much of a sweet tooth haha.

At this point we were so exhausted and it was only 9 or 10 PM haha. Talk about grandma status. We accomplished a lot with the sightseeing. Definitely a productive day. It was nice to have checked out these places with someone that’s actually never been to these places. I just couldn’t get over how nice it was that day. Perfect weather with great company.

Hands down one of the best days I’ve had since I’ve been here in Cali. 🙂

San Francisco Fun

Over the weekend on Saturday, I drove up to San Francisco to meet up with a close girlfriend of mines from back at home who was in town visiting. I was really excited to see a familiar face again. I’d like to consider this more of my first time in SF since I drove up during the day time and did a lot more than my last 2 previous experiences. Let me tell you, driving around SF was quite comparable to New York lol. The hills freaked me out a bit, but I got used to it. I saw cars that were parked at a total slant and I’m thinking, “how the fuck did you do that?!” lol.

Met up with my friend C and her friend T at the Brixton (http://www.brixtonsf.com) for brunch. Been awhile since I had brunch since I was back at home, which was a ritual with C. Their Bloody Mary’s was pretty good and I had to get my usual eggs benedict with salmon and a side of avocado. I’d definitely come back again. A hilarious yet completely awkward and embarrassing moment happened to me when I was there though lol. Long story short, a customer there who was drunk because it was his birthday, had approached me and felt the need to “express” his thoughts and feelings to me which was very inappropriate lol. Sighs …haha.

Afterwards, we ventured off to the Golden Gate Bridge, which was something I haven’t had a chance to check out yet. I’d definitely like to go back again and walk across it. Traffic was a bitch and there was a large crowd of people. Luckily when I had managed to drive over the bridge to park, parking was quick and easy. Too bad it was foggy though. Glad I got to see it though.

Next we went to the Great Meadow at Fort Mason after we stopped into Safeway and grabbed some beers. I loved it here! Luckily I had a big beach towel in my car to sit down on. We were waiting for C’s friend to meet up with us. Just pretty much hung out, drank some beers, and played “Kings”. It was really chill. I’m surprised that they don’t really care that you drink so openly there haha.

The rest of the day consisted of drinking around Nob Hill since that where T’s apartment was at. Met T’s roomies, who were really nice and cool. Went to a couple bars before I headed back to SJ. There’s this one bar we went to called the Kozy Kar (http://www.kozykar.com). It was an interesting spot lol. Would I go back? Maybe haha. It was an interesting bar though, that’s all I have to say haha.

Overall, it was a great day in SF seeing an old friend and making new friends. It was refreshing to be around a different crowd of people compared to the people I’ve met in SJ so far. I’d like to eventually move closer to the city, but SJ will do for now. Hopefully I’ll make another drive up there soon! 🙂

Comedy Jam 2013

Just got home not too long ago from Comedy Jam in Mountain View, CA. at Shoreline Amphitheatre. It was a great time! I brought my DSLR with my but unfortunately I wasn’t able to use it at all. In fact, the staff made me “check it in” and they held it for me at a booth. Disappointed that I didn’t get to use it and I checked the site to see if I was even allowed to bring it. Nothing was stated on the site. Oh well!

While I was checking my camera in, the lady at the booth was really nice and randomly asked me how many people I was with and I told her 8. She asked me if I wanted FREE upgraded seating. In my mind I was thinking, “girrrrrl, you don’t gotta ask my TWICE!” lol. The tickets were cheap to begin with ($25 for lawn seating). I told her I’ll go check with my friend and the rest of the group. Luckily, the lady had 8 tickets where we were all able to sit together, so that was awesome. It was really random that she had offered it to me and I barely had a conversation with her lol. Our original seats was on the lawn section. Either way seats weren’t bad at all!

Grabbed a few beers and greasy snacks (garlic fries and nachos) and we enjoyed the show. We missed the first three comedians due to traffic and parking, but I didn’t even know who they are so it’s okay haha. I was definitely excited for Anjelah Johnson and Mike Epps. I had seen Russell Peters earlier this year back in  Boston, and he was alright. He used a joke I already heard from the first time I had seen him, so eh it’s alright… haha.

The line up of comedians were:

– Kabir Singh (no idea who he is)

– Cristela Alonzo (no idea who she is )

– Felipe Esparza (no idea who he is)

– Mike E. Winfield (hilarious!)

– Anjelah Johnson (awesome .. my favorite chola lol)

– Tony Roberts (hilarious!)

– Joey Diaz (snoozer)

– Russell Peters (seen him already, no biggie)

– Mike Epps (not that funny which was disappointing)

I’ll try to upload a couple video clips I recorded from the show, but for now pictures will do. Definitely check it out next summer if you’re in the Bay Area. Hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend! 🙂

Good Company

As corny as this may sound, when shit gets rough all you truly need is good company. Maybe it’s the liquor talking but whatevs lol. I blame it on tonight’s club and bar hopping haha. Anyways, I’m very thankful to have at least one close homegirl here especially being so far away from home. We’ve been friends for over 10 years and she’s pretty much like the little sister I never had. Her and her family has been nothing but hospitable and kind to me. It’s been very comforting. The homesickness has slowly faded but I left my heart back at home in Boston that’s for sure. I’m still having a very difficult time adjusting especially with meeting certain wack ass people here. I definitely needed a night out like tonight and just have some fun and to forget about the bullshit. I’ve cut a lot of people out of my life especially after I moved and honestly “ain’t nobody got the time for that” lol.

Definitely looking forward to many more good times and making new friends! Hope everyone else is having a great weekend! Kanpai!!! 🙂
